Don't be pressured into behaving in a way that is culturally inappropriate for you. To be forced to do so amounts to cultural bullying. Cultural respect works both ways. As a non=drinker, i was pressured to drink, and had to endure scowls when i point-blank refused (politely). It made for a very uncomfortable meal. ... Full Comment>>

Blondie_ on news Should You Use a Recruiter to Find a Teaching Job in China?(4 comments)
any 'recruiter' that requires you to sign something on arrival is clearly not to be trusted. On receipt of ANY Chinese document, it should be translated (and questioned) prior to signing. Blondie_ on news The Truth About Expat Salaries in China(12 comments)
The salaries currently on offer to foreign workers are abysmally low - there has not been a significant increase since I was working there, and certainly not one that has kept pace with inflation. Blondie_ on news Can Switching Jobs in China Affect Your Prospects?(14 comments)
I should add that many chinese employers usually find a way to avoid paying you any bonus, citing some flaky breach of contract. Most foreign workers i knew stayed with bad employers, giving them the benefit of the doubt, often tolerating treatment that would have an employer up before an investigation. Remember ...
