Tips Worth Your Attention When Bathing Your Baby
Looking after your baby in the heat of summer is not an easy thing. Especially the increase in temperature can be a real worry for parents concerned about their children’s health. Babies and children need to be watched carefully during hot weather because they are at a higher risk of becoming uncomfortable than adults. The summer heat increases baby’s perspiration, for new parents, it is important to know how to keep your baby cool and comfortable in this summer.

To keep your baby cool and comfortable in summer, one thing you need to know is how to bathe your baby to beat the heat. In early July, there was a free lecture about “Bathe your baby” atGuangzhou Elizabeth Women’s Hospital attended by many parents-to-be.

According to Tan Xue, an infant caregiver at Guangzhou Elizabeth Women’s Hospital, bathing and swimming will do a great deal of good for a baby, not only does it clean skin and eliminate fatigue, but also strengthen body’s resistance and promote growth and development. If you want your baby eat well, sleep well and have a better healthy body, swimming is a right choice. Bathing a baby is not an easy thing. “In addition to proper techniques and an appropriate intensity of touch, words of comfort also matters, which tests patience of parents-to-be.” Tan Xue says.

Here are some tips worth your attention when bathing your baby:

1. Wash your hands to keep your baby from infection;
2. Take off all hard objects like rings, bracelets;
3. Trim your nails to ensure you won’t hurt baby;;    
4. Maintain your baby’s room temperature 26~29℃, and baby’s bath water should be 39~40℃(use a thermometer to monitor);
5. Fill the tub with no more 10cm of water for babies;
6. Keep electric appliances (hair dryers or curling irons) away from the bath tub;  
7. Don't put your baby into a tub when the water is still running. (The water temperature could change or the water could get too deep.)
8. Don't use bubble baths. They may be irritating to the baby’s urethra, which in turn might increase the risk of urinary tract infections.
