Is the 80% capacity based on actual space? As in there is only 20% of land area available for people to occupy? Does the figure also account for buildings, benches, and any other thing which also occupies the land or is it simply based on actual land area? Full Comment>>

Around China : bernhardtra commented on news What Causes Pollution in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou? Government Ministry Releases Report With Answers

It surprises me that whoever translates these articles hasn't learned yet that we are going to make fun of the articles (usually because the translation is done poorly). The summaries are usually not done well in any regard. I wish they would hire me to write articles for them. I think they would be more interesting ... Full Comment>>

Articles : bernhardtra commented on news Most Common English Teaching Job Scams in China: What to Avoid

I like the scam where they advertise 4000 AUD a month with an immediate start date and when you contact them they want to give you a job which pays far less or the job is only for one month in June. Or the one where they advertise a job which doesn't exist and get you to their office and talk about teaching kids ... Full Comment>>

I think the real problem here is misinformation. Not misinformation from the article, but misinformation given to the 75 or 26 year old. My students used to Baidu (as in Google, a verb) information for classes. Many times they would end up on Blogs with bad information or they would ask a classmate. Usually the ... Full Comment>>

Wow, his bar is a replica of a Chinese aircraft carrier, to show his political views. He obviously supports the view that the islands are China property. I think that if they only got 33K, they were not that well connected. It is actually common practice for the police to mediate in many situations, to avoid court. It serves it's purpose, even if it is abused in some ways. In the end the company could have refused the mediation and simply went to court over it, this ... Full Comment>>

I don't believe they actually sell individual computers in Silicon Valley, except at Best Buy. How can he equate a market to a place where inventions happen. That is not quite logical. Yes, don't give them your passport. I just just asked the PSB in Shanghai and I was told that without the passport they can't cancel the visa. However, this might vary by province or there still might be a way for them to do it, but it would be rather difficult I think and require a lot of guanxi. By law, they have ... Full Comment>>

It is the employees document. I actually just spoke with someone who works for the PSB and they told me they have ordered companies to give the FEC to the employee. Companies don't want you to have it as you can actually cancel the document yourself. If you do, it does make it a bit harder to get a new one, but it ... Full Comment>>
