About Me

I'm a former drama teacher, now an English teacher. I have more than twenty years experience as a teacher, eleven of those years as an English teacher in China. I have a great passion for teaching and believe that learning can change a persons life for the better.

Blogs : doogsville commented on surenpillai 's blog Which English? Which accent?

So what, pray tell, is a neutral English accent? And better for whom? What utter drivel. Are you aware that more than 30% of 'English' words come from Latin, Greek, French and German? Are you aware that the origins of English pre-date the concept, let alone the term English? You're ignorance is overtaken only by ... Full Comment>>

If you're as arrogant and stupid as your post makes you sound, then perhaps she would have been better off if she had 'never looked at you'. Accent only matters to people like you who are stupid and shallow enough to make it matter. The rest of the well adjusted normal people in the world really don't care. Full Comment>>

Blogs : doogsville commented on adb2014 's blog Strange Flatmates part 1

Where do they come from? These weird people who China seems to attract like a magnet. My first room mate was an Australian, who was five years younger than me and looked ten years older. He smoked and drank and that was about it. I moved out after a couple of weeks. The second guy was great. Easy going and clean and ... Full Comment>>

Articles : doogsville commented on news 3 Cheap Travel Websites for Booking Your Summer Holiday From China

Wow, what a stupid, pointless and ignorant post! Just because you don't feel a need to use those kind of websites must mean no one else in the world could feel the need. What's it like to be better and smarter than everyone else on the planet? Wait, why am I asking you that? I should be asking 'What's it like to be ... Full Comment>>

You don't need a TEFL or any other certificate to teach here, it's a myth, sadly one still propagated by the ignorant. As to the two years teaching experience, the evidence you have to provide for that is purely anecdotal, so any experience you have, private tutoring, volunteer teaching or whatever counts towards ... Articles : doogsville commented on news Making Travelling Part of the Adventure: Sleeper Buses in China

Wow! Ii must have been travelling on the wrong buses. I've travelled from Zhuhai to Sanya and Zhuhai to Nanning, and I have to say, never, ever, ever again! I'm not huge, 180 cm, but the beds are too short for me. I have to sleep with my feet in the aisle, which means I get stepped on. Even then I have a sore neck ... Full Comment>>

Wow! You really take the biscuit, pun intended. I doubt you would feel as sorry for anyone as anyone reading this probably feels sorry for you. Not that anyone cares about you or your angry opinions anyway. I do intend to make some of these, because I think they will be easy to make and taste nice, end of story. ... Full Comment>>

Thanks for the great article Andrea, very useful! @Katy, there are a few things you can cook easily here. Buy some stock from your local supermarket, the jelly ones in little plastic pots, and make soup. You can make all kinds of vegetable soups easily. One of my favourites is mushroom soup. I buy as many varieties ... Full Comment>>

Oh please JayKnox, not another one of those 'this is my experience in China so it must be everyone else's experience too' posts! Who made you the spokesman for every foreigner in China? Do you know MOST foreign teachers personally? If so, did you canvass their opinion on this? I didn't think so. You also choose to ... Full Comment>>
