Articles : juanisaac commented on news China's White-Collar Workers Hate Their Offices, Waste Too Much Time in Meetings

At my work we have meetings all the time and it is a beat down of everything we do wrong. After 15 minutes, it is all over and we can leave. Management can care less of our opinions and suggestions. It gets old after a while hearing the same bs every two weeks. Full Comment>>

Articles : juanisaac commented on news Qiu Zhenhai: China Desperately Needs More Cutting-Edge Talent

The Chinese government wants more talent, but in some provinces they are testing five year limits on foreigners and telling them to leave. For Chinese foreign students they want to be rewarded fro their talent and not kow-tow to seniority. At this pace it will be like the Japanese who took rifle designs from the ... Full Comment>>

Seriously, you need TWO years of teaching experience. My old school in Jiangsu has not had a foreign teacher in two years and they are as desperate as they can get. The first few months that I stayed in China I started to learn the language in the small town of Hai’an, Jiangsu. I was not learning the national language but the local dialect. A colleague pointed it out when instead of saying “Ni hao” I said, “Ni hoa.” More words in the regional ...

Your blog has a date of May 15, 2014. Why don't you plan to write a blog on the same day next year? I want to see if you will really feel the same then as you do now. My first 6 months here I loved everything, the next six months I loathed everything. I have reached homeostasis now where I take China for what it is- ... Full Comment>>

I do not subscribe to that. I have been in China three years and I do not lie, cheat, or am immoral (at least in my view). My boss at my present school always tells me that I am too honest and not tell her anything about my outside business. But I hear you that it is tough not to act like some of the locals. My ... Blogs : juanisaac Posted a new blog The Chinese Western Bar

At first thought, the idea of opening up a Western-type bar in China should not be hard. However, what is a Western bar? Bars come in variations such as an English or Irish pub, a German biergarten, or Mexican cantina to just any night club. John Jiang, the owner of the New Yesterbar, had such an idea of opening up ...

Blogs : juanisaac Posted a new blog Making a More Creative Chinese Student

At a friend's house I saw her young son and another boy put plastic chairs on their backs and pretend they were turtles- nothing special for imaginative children. There might be a solid reason for this as well. I have met excellent non-native speakers. However, as good as they are they still make their fair share of mistakes. I can hear them when they speak and read. Maybe that is what schools want, to model of how to speak. Full Comment>>

I don't know about that one. Being white will be superior in the hiring hierarchy than a native black speaker. I have had school F.A.O. s tell me "we don't hire blacks or Asians." This also means blacks and Asians who have deep roots in English speaking countries. I can just point to Louischuam on this website. A ... Full Comment>>

I agree with you. Everything seems like a commodity to be bought and sold. Prostitution is a short term business of a payment for services. And marriage seems to be the same thing- a long term business deal with a baby and in-laws thrown into the package. Full Comment>>
