Articles : Dracon44 commented on news 7 Typical Jobs for Foreigners in China

According to the 2013 census there were 848,500 foreigners living in China with an average yearly increase of 3.9%. How many foreigners do you know? 100? 200? 1000? You may have noticed a huge drop in the diversity of jobs held by foreigners that you know. But that is a very small sample of the overall population of ... Full Comment>>

Articles : Dracon44 commented on news Freelancing Foreigners: Making Some Extra Mao

Agreed. Freelancing (for most foreigners) is illegal. Anyone who says different has an agenda. It is illegal to work in China beyond the scope of the work that is specified in your employment license. And yes that does include working at a different work unit than the one on said license. Articles : Dracon44 commented on news The Trials of Being Fat in China

..."sometimes people need to know that they have become too fat..." I'm sure this doesn't need to be pointed out to the majority of obese people. They know very well they are overweight. BTW what does "too fat' mean? Isn't that a completely arbitrary observation? What you might find "too fat" might well be another ... Full Comment>>

Articles : Dracon44 commented on news Tips for Living Well on a Budget in China

Under Chinese law, working for anyone but your sponsor is illegal. So yes part-time work is illegal for most of us here. The reasons for this include taxes, and places that are not legally allowed to hire foreigners. Gary Chodorow is a specialist in Chinese visa law and he states "It is illegal to work in China ... Articles : Dracon44 commented on news New Country, New Me: Foreigners Discuss How They’ve Changed in China

Why would you WANT a Chinese passport in the first place? Yeah if you are from some poorer place...then maybe. But I would never trade in an American, Canadian, British or for that matter any 'Western' passport for a Chinese one. Full Comment>>

Articles : Dracon44 commented on news Teaching in a Third-Tier City: My Year in Yingkou

Someone up above posted a comment to the effect that the majority of problems foreigners had in their lives were caused by other foreigners and not locals. I've also found this to be the case. Now I just steer clear of the vast majority of foreigners in China. Sure there may be some fine folk who come over here but ... Full Comment>>

Every single one of these so-called misconceptions are absolutely true. The author comes off as completely clueless. Let's go through them to find out why. 1. No Christianity in China. Nothing wrong with that? Only the fact that it is ILLEGAL, both here and in Western countries. Perhaps however now that you know it is wrong you might invest some time in learning proper classroom control measures. Or you could keep on taping naughty kids to their chairs, only one day to pick on the wrong kid and ... Full Comment>>

Articles : Dracon44 commented on news Why Can't China Attract Foreign Professionals?

Funnily enough other articles suggest that China has no problems attracting foreign professionals. It also pointed out that "[This] ... Full Comment>>
